Jim and I have been involved in some volunteer work for Greenpeace and would like to take the opportunity to tell you how you can get involved.
First, let me fill you in the the specifics of the issue that we are currently working on.
THE PROBLEM:
-Big coal = big problems
-Coal fired power plants are responsible for nearly 40% of global warming pollution.
-More than 100 new coal plants have been proposed in the US.
THE SOLUTIONS:
-Wind energy is the fastest growing energy source.
-19 million households in Europe already get their energy from wind.
-The energy generated by the sun in 20 days is equal to the energy of all the coal, oil and natural gas buried underground.
-With the right leadership in Washington, we could all be getting our energy from the wind and sun.
HOW TO TAKE ACTION:
All you need to do is make a phone call! It only takes 5 minutes!
On March 2, 2009, thousands of activists will be rallying at the Capitol Climate Coal-fired Power Plant in Washington, DC - a coal plant that literally powers Congress with dirty energy.
At the same time, we hope to generate at least 10,000 calls to Congress.
The mission is to send a powerful message of urgency through PEACEFUL civil disobedience and creative direct communication. There has never been an American tradition more noble, and it is needed now more than ever to stop the climate crisis.
Join thousands of citizens, young and old, who are taking action to lead us toward ecological sanity and sustainability.
Your willing to do your part. Tell our members of Congress to do theirs!
It only takes 5 minutes!
On March 2, 2009 make a phone call to support Capitol Climate Action.
(202) 224-3121
And say something like:
Hello, my name is____, calling from______. I am calling because today , thousands of citizens came to Washington DC to tell our government to quit coal, and I support them every step of the way. Coal is a dirty, outdated source of energy that drives global warming and poisons into our communities. To stop global warming, we need to invest in clean energy and free ourselves from coal's stranglehold. Please do everything in your power to make it happen. Support STRONG legislation on clean energy.
